MacBook Neo: A18 Pro, 13″ display, up to 16 hours battery life, from just RM2,499

The cat is finally out of the bag: Apple has announced its new budget-friendly MacBook Neo. Priced from just RM2,599–cheaper than even its entry level iPhone 17e—the MacBook Neo will certainly be a compelling option for its target demographic of students and casual users.
MacBook Neo Malaysia pricing and availability

Apple has not yet announced when exactly it’ll be available for purchase in Malaysia, but has so far listed it as just ‘Coming soon’, so check back later for availability. They have at least listed its price:
- MacBook Neo, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM2,499
- MacBook Neo, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage, Touch ID – RM2,899
For those still in school, using Apple’s education discount means that the MacBook Neo will be available for as low as just RM2,099. There aren’t any further customisation options, so no way to add more memory here, but again considering the MacBook Neo’s target audience the 8GB of memory on top of MacOS’s aggressive memory management should make it sufficient for most users.
MacBook Neo specs

The MacBook Neo features four fun colour options: Silver, Indigo, Blush and Citrus. The chassis itself meanwhile is built out of recycled aluminum, with the entire laptop weighing in at just 1.23kg light and measuring 1.27cm thin.

As for the screen, it houses a 13-inch Liquid Retina IPS display pushing a 2408 by 1506 resolution for a pixel density of 219 pixels per inch. The panel is also capable of 500nits of brightness and full coverage of the sRGB colour gamut. Audio meanwhile is taken care of by a pair of side-mounted stereo speakers.

Under the hood is the Apple A18 Pro system-on-chip, with a six core CPU split between two performance cores and four efficiency cores. There’s also a 5-core GPU (one less than the iPhone 16 Pro), a 16-core Neural Engine and 60GB/s memory bandwidth. Speaking of memory, you’ll find 8GB of unified memory and up to 512GB of SSD storage.

Other features of note include a 36.5Wh battery that Apple claims is good for up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of web browsing. Considering how low power consumption is on what is essentially a mobile chipset, the MacBook Neo comes with just a 20W USB-C power adapter out of the box.

As for I/O, you get a 3.5mm headphone jack and two USB-C ports, one of which is USB 3 and the other being USB 2. The keyboard meanwhile isn’t backlit either, and there’s no Force Touch trackpad either, as instead you get a regular Multi-Touch trackpad instead. There’s also support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6 wireless connectivity, while video calls get handled by a 1080p FaceTime HD camera.
