Apple iPad Pro with M5 Chip Leaked in Unboxing Video; Early Benchmark Scores Fail to Impress

A Russian YouTuber has just leaked what he claims is the upcoming iPad Pro powered by the yet-to-be-released M5 chip.
Creator Wylsacom, who currently has 11.5 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, didn’t explain how he got his hands on the tablet but unboxed what is clearly labeled as an ‘iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) Wi-Fi’, specifically the 256GB model. Notably, this 256GB model comes with 12GB of RAM, rather than the 8GB found in its soon-to-be predecessor.

The unit he showcased came in Space Black, which, I guess, confirms at least one of the colorways that will be available at launch.
Wylsacom even ran benchmark tests using Geekbench 6’s CPU, comparing it against the current iPad Pro M4 with 8GB of RAM. Based on the results, the iPad Pro with the M5 chip did show higher scores—as expected—but not by much. Here are the results from the Geekbench CPU benchmarking:
- iPad Pro M5, 12GB: 4133 single-core score, 15437 multi-core score
- iPad Pro M4, 8GB: 3748 single-core score, 13324 multi-core score

The M5 chip only outperformed the M4 chip by 10% in single-core scores, though multi-core scores showed a wider gap of 15.85%.
As for the Geekbench GPU test, this is where we see a substantial leap, with the iPad Pro M5 boasting a GPU score of 74,568, while the iPad Pro M4 scored 55,702—a 33.84% improvement that could somewhat justify an upgrade.

Nevertheless, these scores are still unofficial at this point. The iPad Pro with the M5 chip has yet to launch but is expected to be announced before the end of this year. That being said, it’s also worth noting that Wylsacom accurately leaked the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 last year, so there’s a high chance that what he’s shown is credible.
