Apple’s 9/9 Event Logo Works Like a Heat Map When Touched—But What Does It Mean?

By Timothy Teoh September 2, 2025

Last week, Apple confirmed that their next major Apple Event will be held on 10 September at 1AM Malaysia Time. This is where the Cupertino-based tech giants will unveil the hotly anticipated iPhone 17 lineup, along with new iterations of devices such as the AirPods Pro 3, iPad Pro M5, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Reminders of the ‘Awe Dropping’ event (as christened by Apple) are the first thing you’ll see when you enter Apple Malaysia’s website. However, not many have noticed that the glowing stylized logo – which looks intentionally designed to mimic a heat map – is interactive.

That is, if you tap or drag your fingers across the logo, the contact point turns red, acting as though it is a heat map. It works only on smartphones, with the desktop website simply featuring a continuous glow with no effects when clicked.

Speculation is rife as to what the Apple logo easter egg means, but the main consensus on Reddit is that Apple is perhaps getting ready to introduce its Pro models with a vapor chamber. If you’re unfamiliar, vapor chambers are built-in components that absorb heat from crucial areas of the phone, such as the processor. The heat absorbed is spread across the chamber, allowing for heat dissipation and thus preventing the phone from overheating.

It must be said, though, that vapor chambers aren’t groundbreaking. Gaming smartphones typically have large vapor chambers to withstand prolonged gaming sessions. But even Apple rivals, such as the Galaxy S25 Series, have already started integrating these components for thermal management.

While not necessarily a top-tier innovation, it should be noted that even the latest iPhone 16s don’t yet have vapor chambers. You could say they’re long overdue, but it would be interesting to see Apple’s take on a vapor chamber – IF the speculations are indeed true.

Other, somewhat ambitious claims suggest that the iPhone 17 lineup will feature thermal cameras – though that would be a little head-scratching. Nevertheless, considering Apple’s track record of being seemingly a little behind its competitors (take 120Hz refresh rate and the ability to rearrange app icons, for instance), our bet is that the heat map logo is a nod toward a vapor chamber for the iPhone 17 series.

Until then, though, we’ll have to wait until 10 September at 1AM MYT for the full scope of what’s in store for the iPhone 17 series.
