Apple Achieves Major Milestone as More Than 3 Billion iPhones Are Sold

Tech giant Apple has reached a significant milestone by selling more than three billion iPhones since the ever-popular model launched in 2007. According to PCMag, the achievement was announced during the company’s Q3 earnings call by Suhasini Chandramouli, the director of investor relations.
Tim Cook also reposted a message from Greg Joswiak, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple Inc., who said, “3 billion iPhones sold! Thank you to everyone who’s made iPhone such an important part of their lives. I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead!”

Thank you to everyone who’s made iPhone such an important part of their lives. I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead!
It took Apple nine years to sell one billion units of the iPhone, with the brand crossing that mark in July 2016. While Apple did not disclose when it hit the two-billionth mark, analysts estimate that milestone may have been reached in September 2021.
As for where Apple stands against its main competitor Samsung, reports suggest that Samsung may have reached the three-billion mark earlier, in mid-2024. The numbers were estimated based on the 2.93 billion Samsung phones sold between Q1 2014 and Q1 2024. However, as PCMag notes, this figure does not account for sales from Samsung’s first four generations of the Galaxy S series, which debuted in 2010.
If these numbers are accurate, Apple and Samsung would be the only two brands to have sold three billion units of their smartphones.
