Apple Introduces New 14-Inch MacBook Pro with Upgraded M5 Chip

Apple has introduced its latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, now powered by the all-new M5 chip. Designed with professionals and power users in mind, the new chip brings a noticeable jump in AI and graphics performance, while still keeping the slim and portable form factor of the MacBook Pro line.
At the heart of the device is the M5 chip, which features a 10-core GPU with built-in Neural Accelerators. Apple claims this delivers up to 3.5x faster AI performance than last year’s M4 model, and 1.6x faster graphics. The chip also includes a 10-core CPU and an upgraded 16-core Neural Engine, supported by over 150GB/s of memory bandwidth—making it capable of handling large AI models and demanding 3D work directly on the laptop.

The new MacBook Pro is targeted at users who need consistent performance across a variety of apps. Apple highlights use cases like querying databases in Python or juggling design tools such as Rhino, Notion, and Jira. Compared to the older 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, the M5 model can deliver over three times the frame rates in games, while still improving on the performance of the M4-based model.

The device also features a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, which supports up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness. There’s also an optional nano-texture glass version for those working under bright lighting. For video calls and media, it comes with a 12MP front camera with Center Stage, studio-quality mics, and a six-speaker system that supports Spatial Audio.
Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, putting it among the longest-lasting laptops in Apple’s lineup.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 starts at RM6,999 for the base model, which includes 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The top-tier option, with 36GB RAM and 1TB storage, is priced at RM13,999 and includes a 14-core CPU and 32-core GPU.
As of now, there is no confirmed release date or pre-order schedule for Malaysia. Apple’s local website currently shows a “check back later for availability” notice.
