Android to iPhone: Step-by-Step Guide to Switching to iPhone

January 7, 2022

Switching from Android to iPhone may be controversial to do among friends. Want to start a lengthy debate? Mention, “There’s no question Android phones are the best,” “iPhones are worth every penny,” “Only a dolt would use an iPhone,” or, “Android isn’t that great,” and then stand back and witness chaos ensue. If you’re reading this article, you’ve made the bold choice of making that transition.

Ready to transfer to iOS? This is a step-by-step guide to switching to an iPhone!

Before you begin:

  • Switch on your Android device and make sure it’s connected to the Wi-Fi
  • Connect both phones to their respective chargers so they won’t run out of battery midway
  • Make sure there’s enough space on your iPhone to fit all the data from your Android device and SD card
  • Update Chrome on your Android device to enable the bookmark transfer feature

Step 1

As you’re setting up your new iPhone, there should be a prompt that says “Apps & Data”.  Select “Move Data from Android” to begin the transferring process.

Step 2

On your Android device, download and install the “Move to iOS” app from the Google Play Store. Open the app, tap “Continue”, and accept the terms and conditions. The app will transfer all your contacts and media. It will also automatically install your apps’ iOS versions on your iPhone. However, if there are no iOS versions available for specific apps, you would have to do without them for the time being.

Step 3

Next, your iPhone will show a “Move from Android” screen. Wait for a ten-digit or six-digit code to appear. If you see an alert about weak internet connection on your Android device, ignore it. Once your iPhone generates the code, enter the same code into your Android device to sync both devices.

Step 4

Your iPhone will create a temporary network for your Android device to join. Tap “Connect” on your Android device and wait for the “Transfer Data” screen to appear.

Step 5

Now, your Android device will let you choose which data to transfer. You should see “Google Account”, “Messages”, and “Camera Roll” on the screen.

Choose to transfer data from all three categories, or skip a few if you like. Then, tap “Next” to begin transferring data. It would take a while to complete this process, especially if you have a lot of data.

Step 6

Leave your devices alone and make sure the “Move to iOS” app stays on the screen the entire time. Any interruption like switching apps or receiving a phone call would immediately stop the transferring process.

Step 7

After the transfer is complete on your iPhone, select “Done” on your Android device and “Continue” on your iPhone. Finally, follow the steps to complete your iPhone setup.

Finishing Up

All in all, make sure that all of your content is transferred and ready to go. The only exception is that music, books, and PDFs must be transferred manually through different methods. There are various reasons to transition to the iPhone, and it all boils down to personal preference.
