AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 launched: 208MB X3D cache, up to 13% more performance vs 9950X3D

AMD’s worst kept secret is finally out of the bag: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is now official. This is their latest flagship desktop CPU, and is also the first desktop processor with stacked 3D V-Cache across its CCDs, delivering even more performance than before. And if AMD is to be believed, creatives who are also gamers won’t have to choose between a gaming or creator CPU anymore with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.

At the heart of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is a whopping 208MB of cache, split between 16MB L2 cache and 192MB L3 cache. For context, the previous flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 144MB of cache, while the non-X3D Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 7 9700X have just 76MB and 40MB of cache respectively.

The actual CPU cores themselves are pretty similar to the regular Ryzen 9 9950X3D, with 16 Zen5 X3D cores and 32 threads running on a base 4.3GHz speed with boosts of up to 5.6GHz. The extra cache also means that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 requires a 200W TDP, the highest ever TDP for a desktop Ryzen. It’ll also come with support for DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen 5 and Precision Boost Overdrive 2, complete with special monochrome packaging.

No performance numbers in games were shared, but AMD did show gains between 5% to 13% in content creation, rendering, compilation, AI and simulation workloads, again highlighting their claim that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is the best processor for both games and creative work.

If you’re keen on the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, unfortunately you’ll have to wait for complete details on pricing and availability. AMD has not shared any information on how much it’ll cost, but have at least disclosed that it’ll be hitting shelves in Q2 2026.
