Acer Surprises with FreeSense Smart Ring Reveal at Computex

By Timothy Teoh May 21, 2025

Acer has rightfully gotten a lot of love for its computing devices, from laptops and monitors to desktops and even keyboards and mice. Oddly enough, the most intriguing reveal coming out of Acer’s 2025 Computex booth wasn’t its stellar line of laptops and monitors, but a health tracking smart ring.

The Acer FreeSense Ring signals the brand’s entrance into tech wearables parked under the Acer Gadget sub-brand. Acer’s smart ring will compete with the likes of the Oura Ring and Samsung’s Galaxy Ring for a share of the market that prefers a non-intrusive method of health tracking.

The FreeSense Ring is crafted with lightweight titanium, weighs only 2-3g, and boasts commendable protection with an IP68 and 5ATM water resistance. It measures standard physiological data, including heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, and sleep quality.

An overview of the data points can be analyzed through a companion mobile app, which will also provide suggestions to improve quality of life. For now, Acer says wearers can get full access to all health data without a subscription fee.

The Acer FreeSense Ring is available in a matte finish in Rose Gold or a glossy finish in Black.

We don’t know yet if the Acer FreeSense Ring will ever arrive on Malaysian shores. The company has yet to disclose the availability or the pricing in MYR (if it ever launches here).

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring debuted in Malaysia only recently in April with a retail price of RM2,099. If Tom’s Guide is anything to go by, the FreeSense Ring will be priced at $199 in USD, around RM855.50 when converted. If launched in Malaysia, the FreeSense could be positioned as a friendlier smart ring alternative and swing the advantage in Acer’s direction.
