4 big reveals on the first day of Malaysia Autoshow 2025

By Timothy Teoh May 8, 2025

The annual Malaysia Autoshow 2025 has officially open its doors. Held at MAEPS, Serdang, the country’s largest automotive exhibition will be open to the public from 9 to 15 May 2025, with tickets purchasable at autoshow.my.

Prior to that, a closed-door event for registered media, exhibitors, and invited VIPs did take place. A guided media tour was also held where participants were treated to a few exclusive previews and launches.

Here are the 4 big reveals that took place on the first day of Malaysia Autoshow 2025.

Proton previews the eMas 5

National car manufacturers Proton took the opportunity to preview its second EV model – the eMas 5. Aside from unofficial on-road test photos snapped by citizens, this is the car’s first ever public appearance. Much of its details are still under wraps though – literally.

When unveiled, the eMas 5 was still draped in a colourful camouflage that concealed its true aesthetic. Nevertheless, you can still get an idea of the car’s dimensions. In this case, it appears to be a small hatchback that mimics the design of the Geely Xingyuan, which aligns with previous reports.

Apart from that, Proton still has their lips sealed on other details, only confirming that the launch will take place later this year.

Perodua teases eMO EV prototype

On the other side of the aisle, Perodua made their intentions of competing in the EV sector loud and clear. A turning stage showcased the brand’s first ever prototype of its EV car, the Perodua eMO EV. Not completely, though, as the prototype was displayed in its half-cut form.

Perodua intentionally displayed the eMO EV in this fashion to highlight the car’s interior as well as its inner workings. Like the eMas 5 preview, the prototype is still in its unofficial colours, choosing instead to don the eMO EV in black camoudflage wrap for the time being.

JETOUR expands SUV line with VT9 models

Later on, Chinese car manufacturer JETOUR raised the curtains on its new SUV line-up, the JETOUR VT9. The new models feature a 7-seater cabin with foldable second and third row seats, offering up to 1,680L of cargo space.

Inside, the VT9 boasts a 10.25-inch LCD infotainment system which supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The JETOUR VT9 was revealed in two variants, Comfort and Prime. The price of the Comfort Variant starts from RM118,800. It features LED auto headlamps, a sporty red exterior trim, 19-inch alloy wheels, perforated seats, and ambient lighting.

On the other hand, the Prime variant starts at RM123,800, and comes with a slew of additional luxuries, including a panoramic sunroof, a 6-speaker system, memory seats, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Moreover, it’s loaded with comprehensive safety features such as Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Lane Change Warning (LCW).

Chery gives first look at TIGGO CROSS

Meanwhile, Chery debuted the highly-anticipated TIGGO CROSS. This is the smallest and most compact edition of the TIGGO series, which comes in two versions: a 1.5L Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) variant and 1.5L Turbocharged variant.

Official pricing for the TIGGO CROSS has yet to be revealed, but registrations of interest are already open for keen customers.

Alongside the TIGGO CROSS, Chery also unveiled two hybrid SUVs: the TIGGO 8 PHEV and TIGGO 7 PHEV, both of which are slated to launch in the second half of the year.
